Dry Body Brushing

Ever wonder how models and celebs are always radiant and keep their skin so smooth and all year round??  Well fortunately Dry Body Brushingwe know Miranda Kerr’s secret. Dailymail.co.uk tells us that “After she’s had her lemon water and before she slips into the shower, Miranda swears by dry body brushing, which she describes as an ‘integral part’ of her daily regime.”  What in the world is dry body brushing, you ask?

You know those super impersonal spa gift baskets you get from a coworker or someone that doesn’t know you very well?  Well most of them have a little brush or two stuffed inside that usually end up some where under your bathroom sink tossed behind your cotton balls and gigantic box of Q-Tips.

Those are used for dry brushing. It’s pretty self-explanatory, you begin by brushing the skin over your entire body in a sweeping motion towards your heart. This exfoliates the skin, but also to unclog pores to eliminate toxins from your body.

Annet King, director of global education for Dermalogica and the International Dermal Institute, says the procedure helps remove “stagnant toxins” that break down connective tissue, leading to cellulite.

Did I just hear that correctly? Dry brushing helps to remove cellulite? That’s it, I’m sold. So basically, dry brushing is THE BOMB.  Here is a simple “How To” on Dry Brushing.

To get started, follow the simple steps below:

Step One:  Begin by purchasing a natural (not synthetic) bristle brush preferably with a long handle so it can reach all areas of your body.  Also, if dry brushing is going to be a new part of your regime, make sure to find a bristle brush with soft bristles, as to not damage the skin.

Step Two:  Get naked for this one!  The best times to dry brush are before showering, before you slip on your gym clothes or before bedtime.

Step Three:  Begin brushing by starting at the bottoms of your feet and work your way up towards your calves moving in long sweeping motions toward your heart. Always brush toward your heart with firm pressure as to invigorate the skin. We suggest brushing several times in each area, and overlapping as you go.

Step Four:  Slip into the shower and rinse off the dead skin. The combination of the warm steam from the shower will help to detoxify and eliminate toxins and your newly fresh skin will open its pores and soften.

Step Five:  Pat yourself dry and remember to moisturize. Your skin will be more receptive to natural fruit oil like rose hip or coconut oil.

Twice a day is recommended for best results.  Try this for 30 days and see the results of brighter and smoother skin.  If you’re wondering how to clean your new beauty brush, it’s simple. Soap and water once a week will do the trick and leave out to dry.
